Demonstration
Painting demonstration in oil on a 5x7" canvas.
1. I toned the canvas with Raw Umber+White which gives it a warm gray color. I then transferred my sketch
to the canvas. I outlined my sketch with Raw Umber using turpentine like a medium with Kolinsky Sable brush.
It doesn't matter what kind of brush you use, but keep in mind that you need to be comfortable with the
instrument you are using.
2. Then I started to paint the under layer with Raw Umber+White. It has to be a very thin layer, same as spot.
After underpainting was complete I let it dry over night because the paint must be dry before you start adding
in color.

3. In this step I premixed the skin tone palette. I used Raw Umber+White, Raw Sienna+Cadmium Red Light,
Yellow Ochre+Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna+White, Raw Umber+Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber+Yellow Ochre+Burnt
Sienna. To thin my paint instead of using just Linseed oil I used a mixture consisting of 20 parts of turpentine
and 2 parts of Damar Varnish and 5 parts of Linseed oil.
4. Close to the end I went over all the shadows, middle tones, and highlights. I worked back and forth on the
skin tone until I got it the way I wanted. My master-copy of William Bouguereau's painting was complete.
